How does cocoa get into our chocolate?

As part of their English class on the topic “Fair Trade”, the 4A visited the World Shop in Hollabrunn to learn more about fair trade and the stages of the EZA supply chain. In an engaging workshop, they represented the supply chain themselves: cocoa harvest in Santa Ana, Peru – fermentation in El Reposo, Bagua, Peru – preparation for export at the Narandino Cooperative Center, Piúra, Peru – transportation to Europe from the port of Paita in Peru to Rotterdam – processing at Pronatec, Winterthur, Switzerland – delivery to EZA Fair Trade, Köstendorf, Austria, and finally, the sale in various World Shops in Austria.

This made the students realize the long journey the cocoa bean takes before reaching consumers and the complex process involved until we can enjoy fair trade chocolate.
